Its rather about the remains of a Roman Villa, than those of a Grotto.
A famous archaeological site dating back to the Roman period.
The Grotto of Catullus are located in Sirmione, on the southern shore of the Garda Lake and extend over an area of two hectares. The villa collapsed around the 4th century burying the rooms and premises. It was probably due to it that the site was afterwards called “Grottos”.
It is the largest and most complete Roman villa in northern Italy, situated at the utmost point of the Sirmione peninsula on the Garda Lake.
